Pharmacological Action
Avermectin is an anthelmintic. It is effective against nematodes such as Ascaris suum, Haemonchus contortus, Strongyloides ransomi, Trichuris suis, Oesophagostomum, and Metastrongylus in pigs, as well as Haematopinus suis (louse) and Sarcoptes scabiei (mange mite). It is ineffective against trematodes (flukes) and tapeworms.
In addition, as an insecticide, it is effective against aquatic and agricultural insects, mites, and red imported fire ants.
Indications
Antibiotic. Used for the treatment of nematodiases, mange, and parasitic insect infestations in livestock.
Administration & Dosage
Topical Application (Pour-on or Dermal Application):
- Cattle, Horses, Donkeys, Pigs, Goats: Pour along the dorsal midline from the shoulders to the tail. (For sheep, dogs, and rabbits, apply to the inner side of both ears).
Dosage: 0.1ml per 1kg of body weight.
- Boars: 3-4 times a year, 25ml per head.
- Sows: 20ml per head.
- Piglets: Administer at 42-60 days of age, 1-1.5ml per 10kg of body weight.
- Calves: Twice a year (spring and autumn), 20ml per head.
- Fattening Cattle: 30ml per head.
- Adult Cattle: 50ml per head.
- Dogs & Rabbits: Three times a year (spring, summer, autumn), apply 0.2ml to the inner ear per head.
